Mindy Heinsohn
Mindy Heinsohn, flutist, hails from Easton, Maryland. She took up both the flute and dancing at the age of nine, but a foot injury led Mindy to stop dancing and begin her formal flute studies at the age of sixteen. Two years later, she made her solo debut with the Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra, where she performed Mozart’s Concerto in G Major. Mindy attended the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with world-renowned flutist Marina Piccinini, before continuing her studies at Yale University School of Music under the guidance of Ransom Wilson. In addition to her solo appearance with the Chesapeake Symphony, Mindy has appeared with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra and American Youth Philharmonic. She made her Carnegie Hall debut this year under the baton of Kryzstof Penderecki. She has worked with other notable conductors such as Marin Alsop, Reinbert de Leeuw, and Peter Oundjian. Mindy is former principal flutist of the American Youth Philharmonic and member of the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. She has participated in master classes with Jacques Zoon, Maxence Larrieu, Michel Debost, Julius Baker, Jim Walker, Ransom Wilson, Doriot Dwyer, Gary Shocker, Thomas Robertello and Bradley Garner.
